Lap Band Surgery Houston

After receiving his Medical Degree in 1977 from the University of Louvain, Belgium, Dr. Wilkenfeld completed a surgery residency at St John Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He then completed a fellowship in Cardio-vascular Surgery under Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston. His undergraduate training was at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York.

Dr. Wilkenfeld started his surgery practice in Montgomery County in 1983 and has founded programs at several hospitals and outpatient centers in Montgomery County, as well as serving on and chairing numerous committees at these facilities, and also serving as Chief of Staff and Chairman of their Surgery Departments. Dr. Wilkenfeld has received numerous medical honors, including Physician of the Year from the Montgomery County American Cancer Society.

Currently practicing General and Bariatric (weight loss) Surgery, he was the first General Surgeon in Montgomery County, in 1989, to perform Laparoscopic Gallbladder surgery. He has initiated numerous other laparoscopic surgeries, as well as performing thousands of various laparoscopic surgeries since then.

After learning of the health improvements associated with the Lap-Band® procedure, Dr. Wilkenfeld formed Texas Gastric Banding. He has undergone intense training, including a Fellowship in Bariatric Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, in 2003. Having been certified by Inamed, the manufacturer of the Lap-Band, he was then chosen and trained at AIGB’s main facility in Richardson.

Dr. Wilkenfeld is a member of the Texas Medical Association, the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, the Texas Society of Bariatric Surgeons and is an Associate Clinical Professor at the UT Health Science Center Houston for the Conroe Family Practice Residency.
